Welcome to Hope for Uganda!
The 'Hope for Uganda' Approach
We believe it is essential that our projects are firmly rooted in the communities we are working with. Kasese District, Western Uganda, is one of the poorest areas in Uganda - many of the villages we work in have no electricity and water requires many kilometres of walking.
The aim of all ‘Hope for Uganda’ projects is to empower local communities to deal with their own problems, enhancing a sense of independence and ownership.

Our focus is on sustainable development which includes developing people’s skills, knowledge, team-working and leadership.
Group Chair and Treasurer positions are rotated, for example, in our women's groups - so that people can serve their communities better and become self-sufficient.

We encourage saving and working together to achieve more in communities so that people can raise themselves and their families from poverty by earning their own income.
Once Hope for Uganda projects have become self-sustaining, we ask for gradual and consistent repayments to HfU which are then recycled.
The recycled funds are used to start and train new women's groups or buy more beehives for other farmers, for example, with the repayments.
In this way, the benefits of donations to Hope for Uganda are multiplied - as income from one successful project provides further income for other projects. For example, with income from the maize mills we hope to be able to bring clean water to more communities in Kasese District.
